Zaw Ko Ko is an eight-year-old boy who lives with his family in Thanlyin, one of the largest slum areas in Yangon, Myanmar. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with TB in his head, which resulted in a loss of eye sight, and he was also required to have spinal surgery at 4 years of age. Although he does not attend school due to his disability, he loves English, and his siblings take turns reading him in English. He can even say some fruit and food names in English.
His mother works as a street vendor, and his father works as a part-time handyman, but neither of them has a fixed or regular income. The difficult time is continuing for average workers and their families, mostly in the slum areas, which are affected by inflation and the political crisis.
The SANNI Foundation supported the family with the dish soap-making business as a small business investment from the program so that the family had a regular income that assured and covered their household expenses and also learned to keep their own business. Zaw Ko Ko is overjoyed that the SANNI Foundation is not only supporting him with the healthy food, medical expenses, clothing, and sanitary items he needs but also providing him with a small business in his name, which helps the family’s income, and he is very proud of himself that he feels like he can help his family somehow.
