Kyar Nyo is a sixteen-year-old girl who is living with her family of six in Shwe Pyi Thar, one of the largest slum areas in Yangon, Myanmar. The child, who is sadly crippled and unable to attend school, is currently receiving support and help from the SANNI Foundation Myanmar. She was given a polio diagnosis at 3 months of age, and as a result, she is unable to walk and frequently experiences seizures, both of which significantly limit her range of motion.
Her mother is the family’s breadwinner and is a street vendor in their neighborhood since her father is ill. Their finances were quite a struggle with this economic situation, and the little street shop that generated their family’s income was stopped at one point.
Since the child is unable to go to school or is uncomfortable doing something as vocational training either, we supported the family with a small business investment so that they could start their own business, generate income for the family, and mainly look after the child with close attention. Now the family has started selling the tempura in her neighborhood and is getting a lot of customers.
