Phoo Pwint San – Vom schweren Alltag zu Stabilität und Hoffnung

Phoo Pwint San, now 11 years old, lives in Shwe Pyi Thar Township, one of the largest slum areas in Yangon, Myanmar with her grandmother, mother and older sister while parents are separated. Her mother, who is living with HIV, struggled to provide for the family, especially as her health declined. In the past, her mother sold snacks to make ends meet, and when this proved insufficient, she returned to sex work—an unstable and risky livelihood. During this time, Phoo Pwint San faced the possibility of having to drop out of school due to financial difficulties.

In 2023, at the age of nine, Phoo Pwint San became a sponsored child after being referred from our clinic. With regular support from the sponsorship program, she was able to attend school with little to no worry, and her essential needs were met. Her mother continued her free therapy for her chronic illness, allowing the family to regain stability. Today, both her mother and older sister work at a clothing factory, contributing to the household income.

Phoo Pwint San excels academically and has received recognition for her achievements. In 2025, during CRC Day, she won first prize in the painting and drawing competition. A highlight of her 2025 was visiting Shwe Dagon Pagoda, one of Yangon’s most famous landmarks, accompanied by Susanne. During the visit, Phoo Pwint San expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her sponsors, sharing that one day, when she is able, she hopes to support children in need just like herself.
