Myanmar has one of the worldβs worst health care systems and there is extremely little access to free or affordable health care, especially in slum areas. Impoverished communities suffer greatly from often preventable or treatable issues.
The Lotus Clinic was built in 2014 by the SANNI Foundation and is a free clinic located in one of the largest slums in the country. With a strict open-door policy serving anyone in the surrounding impoverished communities, the Lotus Clinic provides a wide range of health services including HIV, tuberculosis, family planning, ante-natal care, malnutrition, paediatrics, counselling and blindness prevention, among many others.
In 2018, more than 55’000 consultations took place at the Lotus Clinic, on average 150 daily.
