Dear Friends of SANNI Foundation

Various events took place in April at the SANNI Foundation! The people in Myanmar celebrated their New Year, the Thingyan Festival – this time unfortunately for the third time under difficult conditions. In addition, Father Jose, the long-time developer and director of our projects in India, is finally back in Europe after a long interruption! We organized several events in Switzerland and Germany, where sponsors could learn more about our projects and the children they support.
On another note: Don’t forget to register for our Run/Walk for SANNI on June 4th at the Greifensee!

With kind regards,
Yours, Susanne Schroff

A great joy for our little residents in the motherhouse

In the middle of April, the Thingyan Festival took place in Myanmar, also known as the New Year Festival. For many it is the most beautiful time of the year, because this festival is the most important in the country. It is a celebration of the past, present and future, and expresses Myanmar’s Buddhist roots. Thingyan is also called the “Water Festival” and during five days there are performances, religious ceremonies and other festivities. Over the years, this festival has become a huge party throughout the country, with water battles, dance performances and singing.

This year, the wonderful festival is overshadowed by a terrible attack by the military, which happened just before Thingyan. (Read more here: https://www.zeit.de/politik/ausland/2023-04/myanmar-militaer-junta-luftangriff-dorf-tote) Many people in Myanmar refused to celebrate and participate in the festival.

The caretakers of the children in our Motherhouse nevertheless decided to celebrate with the children. They cooked together “Mont Lone Yay Baw”, traditional rice balls filled with sugar, and enjoyed a water fight outside in the garden. This is an important time to remember the people of Myanmar and not forget the terrible situation they are going through!

Father Jose visits Europe

Father Jose, the longtime developer and director of our projects in India, has finally come back to Europe after a long break! At our event in Zurich at the end of April, we took this opportunity to thank you, the friends of the SANNI Foundation, for your support alongside a presentation by Father Jose on the latest developments in India. Many thanks to all the guests who attended and faithfully support us! Special thanks to Corinne Fischer for her great help, Hofer Wine & Spirits for hosting, and Sprüngli for the delicious catering. Thanks to all of you we were able to spend a wonderful and inspiring evening together.

Other events with Father Jose took place in Lucerne with Corinne Fischer and in Karlsruhe in the presence of Ingrid Schroff. Many thanks to Klaus Link and Michael Schimmelpfennig, both ambassadors of the SANNI Foundation, for the organization and realization of this very personal evening!

Another event was the Charity Sale of Frédérique Hutter, who created a beautiful collection of dresses and blouses during her last visit to Kerala. These dresses were sold together with jewelry from an earlier collection for the benefit of SANNI Foundation. Thank you Frédérique for your commitment and to all who participated!
